How to Renew a Trademark in Vietnam
File the renewal request within 6 months before the protection title expires — late filing is still possible for up to 6 months after expiry, but costs an extra 10% of the renewal fee per month late.

Renewal Isn't Automatic
A trademark registration in Vietnam doesn't renew itself — the owner has to actively file and pay before (or shortly after) the current 10-year protection term ends, or risk the registration lapsing.
Deadline
The renewal window opens 6 months before expiry, with a further 6-month grace period after expiry if the owner is late.
- File the renewal request within 6 months before the Protection Title expires.
- Late filing is still accepted, but no more than 6 months after the expiry date — and each month late adds a surcharge of 10% of the renewal fee.
Process
The National Office of Intellectual Property reviews a renewal dossier within a fixed statutory window.
- Within 1 month of receiving the renewal request dossier, the Office reviews it and processes the renewal.
- If the dossier is invalid — or the requester isn't the registered owner or an authorized representative — the Office issues a notice of intended refusal, giving 2 months to correct the errors or object.
- If the errors aren't corrected (or corrected unsatisfactorily) within that window, and there's no valid objection, the Office issues a decision refusing the renewal.
Government Fees
State fees for renewal are set centrally, per class of goods/services covered.
- Renewal fee: 100,000 VND per class of goods and services.
- Examination fee for renewal: 160,000 VND per protection title.
- Fee for use of the protection title: 700,000 VND per class of goods and services.
